JaxREIA Frequently Asked Questions

Why does JaxREIA hold board elections every year?

JaxREIA holds elections annually to maintain an organized, transparent, and consistent leadership process. Board terms are two years, but elections are staggered so only certain positions are open each year.

What does “staggered elections” mean?

Staggered elections mean Executive Board positions are elected in even-numbered years, and General Board Member positions are elected in odd-numbered years, unless there is a vacancy or unexpired term to fill.

Which positions are voted on in 2026?

The 2026 election cycle is for Executive Board positions, including President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Which positions are voted on in 2027?

The 2027 election cycle is for General Board Member positions. The cycle then continues, with Executive Board elections in 2028 and General Board elections in 2029.

Who is eligible to vote in JaxREIA elections?

Only Regular and Charter Members in good standing may vote. Corporate Sponsors may vote only if they also hold a qualifying voting membership status.

Who can be nominated for the Board?

Candidates for Executive office or Board of Directors must be members in good standing for more than one year. A President candidate must also have served on the Board for at least one year.

When do nominations open and close?

The nomination process begins in May. Floor nominations are accepted at the July Main Meeting, and nominations close at the conclusion of that meeting. No nominations are accepted after the close of the July Main Meeting.

What must a nominee do to appear on the ballot?

A nominee must meet the eligibility requirements, confirm willingness to serve, and return the completed Candidate Acceptance Package on time. The package must be returned within 14 calendar days after the July Main Meeting, or the nominee is deemed to have declined and will not appear on the ballot.

Can a member be nominated for more than one position?

A member may be nominated for more than one office or board position during the nomination process. However, if a member is nominated for more than one position during the nomination process, the nominee must choose one position in writing before nominations close at the July main meeting.

How will voting be conducted?

Electronic balloting is the standard voting method. Final electronic ballots are distributed to eligible voters at least seven calendar days before the August Main Meeting. Paper ballots are available only by timely request.

When must paper ballots be received to be counted?

Paper ballots must be signed, legible, and received before voting officially closes at the August Main Meeting. Any paper ballot received after the official close of voting will not be counted.

When are election results final?

Election results are announced at the August Main Meeting but are preliminary. Results become official only after the Board reviews the election file and certifies the results at the next scheduled Board meeting.
